Anaesthetist, whose terminally ill wife ended her own life, welcomes new VAD law

A doctor whose terminally ill wife ended her life has welcomed the passing of voluntary assisted dying laws in NSW as a “joyous” event that would ease trauma for other families.
Sydney anaesthetist and pain specialist Dr Gavin Pattullo says he hopes others would not have to go through what he and his wife Venessa experienced, with the new laws.
NSW became the last state in Australia to allow people with a terminal illness to end their life with a final vote on voluntary assisted dying (VAD) laws on Thursday.
“I’m feeling happy about it, and joyous about what’s happened here today,” Dr Pattullo tells 6minutes.
