Anger as GPs financially ruined by floods continue to wait for govt support

Ten months after the NSW floods, governments have turned their backs on GPs and their patients, the AMA says
Dr Nina Robertson.

GPs whose practices were ravaged 10 months ago by floods that inflicted millions of dollars of damage are still waiting on government support, the AMA says.

In a rare show of unity, the AMA, RACGP and Pharmacy Guild of Australia joined together to demand the NSW government establish a new grant system to help private healthcare providers across Lismore and the surrounding areas.

But the AMA says both state and federal governments have turned their backs.

“Seven months after the floods, I was shocked to see many private healthcare services had received little to no funding from government and were still struggling to rebuild,” its president Professor Steve Robson said.
