Investigators will examine another 63 cases involving an alleged cover-up of deaths at Launceston General Hospital by its medical boss.

A review is already underway into claims the hospital’s former director of clinical services, Dr Peter Renshaw, falsified patient death certificates to ensure they were not referred to the state Coroner.

The Medical Board of Australia responded earlier this week by suspending the medical administrator under its emergency powers while it carried out its own investigations.

But the Tasmanian Health Department has announced that an independent review panel is now examining a further 63 deaths at the hospital, where death certificates were signed off “by the single former staff member”.
