Another state goes it alone on funding RSV vaccines for older Australians
WA becomes the second state to start offering aged care residents the vaccine, in line with PBAC recommendations.
As the Federal Government drags its heels on adding respiratory syncytial virus vaccines to the national schedule for older people, another state has decided to go it alone.
Following submissions from GSK and Pfizer, over the past 18 months, the PBAC has made multiple recommendations for the vaccines to be added to the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for people aged 65 and over.
But with a private script costing some $300, the WA Government says it will begin funding the Arexvy vaccine for some 15,000 seniors in aged care homes.
With the flu season looming, it has become the second state to do so after Victoria carried out a similar program last year.
