The maker of goserelin 3.6mg implants will cover the drug’s cost indefinitely for eligible patients after announcing its withdrawal from the PBS — the latest spat between a pharmaceutical company and the PBAC.

AstraZeneca announced in May it would withdraw its goserelin implant Zoladex from the PBS on 1 November because it was unhappy with the funding, but would directly provide the gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist to patients who needed it for six months.

“The decision … reflects the way the PBS currently works, which means that the price offered is too low, making it unsustainable to supply the medicine on the PBS,” the company said at the time.

But last week, it announced it would offer the drug indefinitely to current patients and those prescribed it after 1 November.
