Asylum seekers forced to skip scripts after govt cuts grant to GP practice

GPs say a vulnerable cohort of asylum seekers without Medicare or permission to work are running out of options after the Victorian Government cut a grant to their practice to cover medication costs.

Dr Lester Mascarenhas helps to treat two dozen asylum seekers who are ineligible for MBS or PBS subsidies as part of his work at the Utopia Refugee and Asylum Seeker Health clinic in Melbourne, which he co-founded.
