When an academic journal asked if there is gender equity in medicine, a group of doctors delivered a response that is reverberating through social media.

It all started last month when the MJA called for manuscripts on the topic ‘Women in medicine and medical leadership — is there gender equity?’

In response, a group of more than 30 doctors, most of whom were women, submitted a manuscript with just one word: ‘No.’

When the MJA declined to accept the manuscript because it was too short, the doctors decided to write a letter instead, co-author and hand surgeon Dr Jillian Tomlinson explained on Twitter, where the letter is trending.
