The death of Baby R: It was a planned homebirth so why did it go so wrong?

AusDoc examines the distrust and delusion behind the death of Baby R.

Inquest findings came out last month into the death of a six-day-old baby.

It was the result of an attempted homebirth, and in terms of what went wrong, little will surprise anyone who has read about these cases in Australia over the last 10 or even 20 years.

Baby R died from perinatal hypoxia in August 2022.

His mother had been in prolonged labour during which there were warning signs of fetal distress. With the child’s father driving, they made their own way to hospital for emergency care. The medical interventions to save Baby R did not work. They came too late.
