‘Back at work two weeks after having a baby’: GP registrars want fix for parental leave dilemma

GP registrars who have returned to work weeks after having children are calling for a government-backed parental leave fund that could eventually sustain itself through charity and investments.
Registrar Dr Marian Dover, from Port Macquarie in NSW, saved all two weeks of annual leave for after she gave birth to her second child.
With only annual leave or sick leave available, Dr Dover and her husband decided she should return to work after two weeks while he cared for baby Anna and worked on arranging childcare.
She would go home to breastfeed during lunch breaks or express at the practice.
