Ballet helps breast cancer survivors improve shoulder mobility: study Â

Classical ballet classes could aid recovery from upper-body morbidity in women following breast cancer therapy, a small Australian study suggests.
UNSW Sydney–led researchers say the physical movements unique to ballet lead to improved shoulder range of motion and, subsequently, quality of life in affected patients.
Their study is the first to report significant and quantifiable benefits following a dance intervention other than dance movement therapy in this clinical setting.
“Ballet has additional characteristics, such as a unique use of the upper-body, which sets it apart as an ideal style of dance for breast cancer survivors,” they concluded in Supportive Care in Cancer.
