GPs offered new software function to end PBS authority line headache

Lyrebird says authority requests through the function have been growing fivefold week on week since its launch.

GPs can request PBS authorities in under a minute without touching the phone using a new feature from AI company Lyrebird that launched for Best Practice users last week, the companies say.

PBS authority rules — long considered one of the most pointless headaches in general practice — mean GPs must wait on hold with Services Australia or manually enter data in the Health Professional Online Services portal. The portal requires logging in to Provider Digital Access (PRODA), which times out after 30 minutes.

Lyrebird says the new feature will allow GPs to sign in to PRODA once daily via a new Authority Scripts tab in the Lyrebird consult sidebar.

The feature, launched for Best Practice users last week after two months of beta testing, allows GPs to submit authority requests to Services Australia from within Lyrebird during a consult.
