Bipolar symptoms cease after faecal transplants: case report

The woman is now running her own business after being 'functionally disabled', doctor says
Bipolar syndrome

An Australian woman with bipolar disorder appears to be symptom-free almost two years after receiving nine faecal transplants from her husband, according to a case report.

The woman is no longer on medication, has lost 33kg in weight and has no signs of manic or depressed behaviour, writes NSW psychiatrist Dr Russell Hinton.

“I speculate that her weight loss may be due to her changed microbiome, as well as her having stopped taking psychotropic medication,” Dr Hinton wrote in a letter to the Australian & New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry.

The patient “went from being functionally disabled to running a small business and has published two books.”
