It says there are serious concerns for GPs taking on COVID-19 vaccinations while still recovering from the challenges of the pandemic.

The Black Dog Institute has launched a mental health service for doctors, warning the COVID-19 vaccination drive might lead to burnout.

It says GPs are particularly at risk because there has been no time to recover from the challenges of the past year ahead of their next mission.

“Few have felt the brunt of the pandemic more keenly than health professionals,” says the institute’s chief psychiatrist Professor Sam Harvey.

“[And they] remain under significant strain as they prepare to implement the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination rollout, while dealing with telehealth and coping with ongoing changes to practice.”
