GPs say they have been blindsided by cuts to Medicare items for ECGs, warning patient care will suffer when they are introduced next month.

Starting 1 August, the rebate for a 12-lead electrocardiogram in general practice is falling from $27.45 to $16.15 with the introduction of a single item that excludes funding for interpretation or reporting trace results.
