Blood, guts, vomit: Graphic TV campaign under fire for blaming ED overcrowding on patients

'It's not the public's fault the system is overloaded,' as slightly gory ads appear to suggest: AMA.

An “unapologetically graphic” health campaign to deter people from EDs has been slammed by the AMA for appearing to blame patients for overcrowded hospitals.

The TV ads, featuring blood, vomit, skateboard accidents and handyman injuries, were released by the SA Government last week.

It asks people to consider is it an “Emergency? Or more of an umm … ergency” before attending ED, encouraging them to ring Healthdirect for advice.

The State Government said it was “trying something different” with its campaign to ease congestion in SA hospitals.
