Boost aged care MBS rebates by 50%: AMA

Medicare rebates for GP aged care visits need to increase by 50% to compensate doctors for the time and complexity involved, the AMA says.
It is one of 11 recommendations the AMA is making to the Federal Government in the wake of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
“Nationally, almost 100% of GP (non-referred) attendances to older people in nursing homes are bulk-billed,” it said in a report released on Monday.
“This means that older people are receiving GP services for no out-of-pocket cost, and GPs choose to accept the level of the MBS rebate as full payment for their services.”
