Brave New World? The latest on the GP registrar training revamp

Documents released before Christmas shed a little more light on the plans for the re-engineered program

With just one more year to go until GP training is handed back to the colleges, you would think it a good idea to have a clear plan of how it’s all going to work.      

While there are still many points of darkness awaiting enlightenment, two important reports were published by the federal Department of Health in the weeks before Christmas that may help. 

The main one was on the mechanisms the department will deploy to ensure that the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program is used to help fix the rural workforce crisis.

There are some 4250 GP registrars in training, so in theory, they can be used to fill many holes.
