Breakdancer develops 30cm tumour from too many headspins: case study

Doctors warn the sport has a unique physical risk, not just the threat of global trolling as Rachael 'Raygun' Gun discovered.

Breakdancing dominated headlines after Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn’s infamous Olympic performance, and now doctors have identified a unique overuse injury among breakers.

Known as the “headspin hole”, the condition gave one enthusiast an embarrassing conehead appearance, according to a case report.

The injury is characterised by hair loss, tenderness, and the formation of a fibrous tumour mass on the scalp, which results from repeated headspins.

“Despite ‘headspin hole’ being known within the breakdancing community, it is scarcely documented in the medical literature,” the Danish authors wrote.
