Regulators suspend the RACP’s next president from college board

Dr Sharmila Chandran was meant to take over as president at the end of this month.

The next president of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians has been suspended from the college board by a government regulator, with just 10 days to go until she is set to take up her post.

Earlier this month, SafeWork NSW — which is scrutinising the college over alleged bullying — issued an order to all the college’s remaining board directors not to communicate with staff except for the CEO.

However, president-elect Dr Sharmila Chandran has been accused of breaching the order, thereby exposing staff to “serious risks to their psychological health and safety”.
