‘Bureaucratic nonsense’ pushing younger GPs into early retirement: RACGP
The problem of finding GPs has overtaken profitability as the biggest threat to practices, with the RACGP blaming a workforce exodus triggered by early retirements.
The claim is based on a survey of more than 3000 GPs for the college’s General Practice: Health of the Nation report.
Of around 800 practice owners questioned, 38% said recruitment had become the greatest challenge, ahead of profitability (29%)
“Many GPs are exhausted with the bureaucratic nonsense, and more GPs, including younger GPs, are reducing their hours and expressing their intentions to retire early from general practice,” college president Adjunct Clinical Professor Karen Price said.
