Butler vows to help nurses work in general practice ‘without GPs looking over their shoulders’
Federal Health Minister Mark Butler launches the first national strategy to address nurse workforce issues.
Health Minister Mark Butler has pledged to find further ways to allow practice nurses to work without having a GP “looking over their shoulder”.
Speaking at the Australian College of Nursing conference last week, he said the list of medications that designated nurse prescribers could soon prescribe under the PBS was almost finalised.
“But there’s much, much more we can do,” Mr Butler told the conference.
“[In] general practice in particular, I think there is enormous opportunity for us to find ways in which nurses are able to do more, without having to have a GP notionally looking over their shoulder while doing it.
