Cafe explosion deaths put fitness-to-drive rules under scrutiny again

A driver who killed two people after crashing into a cafe was never reported as unfit-to-drive despite a 10-year history of seizures, an inquest has heard.
In 2015, Brian Scutt suffered an epileptic seizure at the wheel shortly before he drove his Toyota Landcruiser into the Serves You Right Café in the small town of Ravenshoe in Queensland.
The car hit a gas cylinder that exploded, killing the cafe’s manager and an 82-year-old patron.
Mr Scutt should never have had a licence at the time of the crash, Northern Queensland coroner Nerida Wilson ruled on Friday, following her inquest into the two deaths.
