Calcium scoring will change statin treatment decisions: study

Australian CVD risk calculators are inferior to the tools being used overseas, say researchers

Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring could reclassify many patients’ cardiovascular risk and change decisions about statin treatment, a study suggests.

The findings suggested the current Australian absolute CVD risk (ACVDR) calculator, which does not include the CAC score, is inferior to overseas tools for identifying people who would benefit from medication, say the researchers from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne.
