Call to end mandatory reporting as CrazySocks4Docs kicks off

On the day that’s dedicated to shining the spotlight on doctors’ psychological wellbeing, the RACGP is making fresh calls to change mandatory reporting laws to ensure GPs seek help for mental health issues.
CrazySocks4Docs Day, founded by Melbourne cardiologist Dr Geoff Toogood, takes place on the first Friday in June every year.
It encourages healthcare professionals and their supporters to post pictures of their loudest socks on social media to show solidarity with doctors in distress.
This pandemic year was a particularly important year for the cause, said RACGP president Dr Karen Price, and the perfect time to again push for exemptions to mandatory reporting laws that meant health practitioners were no longer forced to report doctors under their care if they felt they were unsafe to practice.
