Can CPR be done with your feet instead of your hands?

German doctors say performing chest compressions with the leg and heel is a safer alternative to usual CPR during the pandemic

Chest compressions in CPR can be successfully performed using the feet rather than the hands, according to a new German study that says the technique would help protect doctors and nurses from aerosol spread of COVID-19.

The researchers from Klinikum Stuttgart recruited 20 emergency and intensive care nurses and specialists to compare the effectiveness of leg and heel compression and compared to hand ones.

They compared the percentage of participants using the correct position, compression depth, chest recoil as well as the accuracy of compression rate for the two techniques.

First of all, the group performed standard compressions on a mannequin for two minutes.
