Assessing fitness to drive seems like one of those jobs GPs do for no reward and no applause.

That’s despite the risk of wrecking a therapeutic relationship if a patient decides they would rather keep their licence than their doctor.

A Senate inquiry into road safety this month said the assessments should be done by occupational therapists rather than GPs.
