Car crashes through GP practice, killing pedestrian and injuring patient mid-consult

Dr Rafid Hamdan said he had turned briefly to look at his computer before a huge explosion filled the room.

A man has died after a car crashed through the glass facade of a GP practice before hitting a patient in the middle of her consultation.

CCTV from a nearby service station showed the Alfa Romeo moments before it ran off the road into the Essendon Health Medical Centre in Melbourne at 9.20am on Monday.

Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy told Nine News that the GP escaped unharmed, but his patient in her 50s was hit by the car, which came to a halt 30m inside the building.

She was subsequently flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries.
