The case of twin brothers who had MI one year apart

Their experience underlines the importance of screening twins if one has cardiac symptoms, say French doctors

Doctors have described how monozygotic twin brothers not only experienced an MI one year apart, but also in very similar anatomical positions.

The case highlights the importance of screening twin siblings if one has suspected coronary disease, the French authors write in BMJ Case Reports.

“Both twin patients exhibited a very similar coronary artery disease, at the same age, with a very close coronary anatomy and an acute unstable coronary lesion in the mid-right coronary artery,” wrote the doctors from Cochin Hospital, Paris.

“This highlights a high concordance in coronary anatomy between monozygotic twins, between evident genetic factors and close environmental data.”
