Doctors are reporting the rare case of a two-year-old diagnosed with ovarian torsion that had turned gangrenous, requiring oophorectomy.

The girl had presented to the ED with non-specific abdominal symptoms, but was otherwise well and not in pain, report doctors from the Teaching Hospital in Karapitiya, Galle, Sri Lanka.

Three days earlier a GP had been diagnosed acute gastroenteritis, due to postprandial vomiting without associated diarrhoea, constipation, or urinary symptoms.

On examination the girl was not in pain but was observed to bend forward when walking.
