Children play ‘limited’ role in COVID-19 transmission

A UK research review reports low rates of kids passing the virus onto adults

Children appear to play a limited role in acquiring and transmitting COVID-19, according to a review by UK paediatricians.

Even though exact details regarding paediatric transmission can’t be confirmed until widespread testing is done, important trends are emerging, they say.

Studies have demonstrated a significantly lower infection rate in children which, coupled with low numbers, suggests children are less likely to acquire the disease.

“Low case numbers in children suggest a more limited role than was initially feared,” write the authors of the summary of key research papers involving children and COVID-19.
