RANZCOG will rename its diploma and advanced diploma qualifications after a surprise crackdown from the federal education watchdog.

The diplomas are mostly for GPs and rural generalists who undertake six or 12 months of hospital-based training in antenatal care and delivering babies, including emergency C-sections for the advanced diploma.

More than 2200 doctors have received additional obstetric qualifications such as the diploma, advanced diploma or RANZCOG’s Certificate in Women’s Health.

But a joint letter from three colleges — RANZCOG, RACGP and ACRRM — says they have been forced into changes after a run-in with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).
