Queensland’s GP practices to be permanently exempt from payroll tax menace

It has been a pained battle over the past two years, but general practices in Queensland will become the first to be permanently exempt from payroll tax under pledges made by both major parties ahead of the state election.
Premier Steven Miles promised this week to introduce the necessary legislation just a week after Liberal National Party (LNP) leader David Crisafulli declared he would protect practices.
There are few details, specifically on whether there will be strings attached to the exemptions.
Other states, such as NSW, have offered practices amnesties from the tax bills on the condition that they bulk-bill a proportion of patients in return — for example, 80% in metropolitan Sydney, 70% across the rest of NSW and 65% in the ACT.
