Consider trialling triptans when headaches affect daily activities, neurologist urges

A neurologist is encouraging GPs to consider trialling triptans for headaches that affect day-to-day function even without “show stopper” migraine symptoms.
Dr Bronwyn Jenkins, a former president of the Australian and New Zealand Headache Society, told AusDoc that migraine was a “very treatable condition” but diagnoses were often missed if patients did not present with severe pain.
“We expect these show stopper, severe migraine attacks to be what we would call a migraine,” the Sydney neurologist said.
“But with anything more than a mild tension-type headache that they can function with, we are probably looking at someone with migraine disorder.
