A GP who apparently copied and pasted the same text into different medical records has agreed to repay $160,000 in Medicare rebates

The GP admitted to inappropriately claiming level B and level C consultation items, antenatal attendances and skin cancer excisions by failing to meet the Medicare requirements, including those for record-keeping.

Some records “appeared to paste identical text across multiple entries in the medical record for multiple patients, and in some cases, the text was not relevant to the presentation,” according to the Professional Services Review (PSR).

It also reported that the GP failed to document fetal heart beat when claiming item 16500 for antenatal attendances.
