Coronavirus numbers spike as China updates diagnostic standard

Chinese doctors are now using lung imaging rather than lab results for diagnosis, says WHO

The coronavirus case-count has shot up overnight by another 13,000 in China, as doctors in the epicentre of the outbreak switch to the use of imaging for clinical diagnosis rather than waiting for lab results.

WHO Health Emergencies Program director Dr Mike Ryan says the increase over the past 24 hours is largely because doctors in Hubei province are now diagnosing a suspected case of COVID-19 based on CT chest scans.
