Coronavirus-infected doctor recounts ‘scary’ ICU stay

A 34-year-old Melbourne doctor who spent days in ICU with coronavirus has shared his ordeal, revealing the frightening moments before he was intubated knowing the odds he faced to recover.
Dr Yianni Efstathiadis, an emergency doctor at Melbourne’s Northern Hospital, Epping, was admitted to the hospital where he worked with worsening COVID-19 symptoms in July.
“Even though I’ve seen that sort of stuff being done before, and I’ve actually put in tubes before as well, being on the patient’s side … it was just, for me, it was panic and fear,” he told ABC’s 7.30.
“That was the point, as a doctor, I started getting worried.
