COVID-19 booster vaccinations could be mixed with flu vaccines in the future, with Australians receiving a combination booster once a year, according to an expert.

Monash University Malaysia microbiologist Dr Vinod Balasubramaniam (PhD) also says manufacturers are working on a vaccine that will protect people against most coronavirus strains in the future.

“As we head into the endemic phase, we’re likely to need booster shots for both COVID-19 and flu viruses each year,” Dr Balasubramaniam said on Tuesday.

“Depending on how much the coronavirus mutates and changes, it is highly possible it will be rolled into one.”
