COVID-19 vaccines to be mandatory for all aged care workers

Aged care workers will have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment under a move endorsed by the national cabinet.
The new rule is likely to come into force across Australia from mid September.
It follows revelations that 66% of workers in the sector are yet to receive a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and alarm at the spread of the Delta strain to five Australian jurisdictions.
However, there were no details on how the requirement would be policed and whether the new laws will apply to GPs visiting aged care facilities.
