Daily tipple lowers risk of diabetes in women who had GDM

Among women who have had gestational diabetes, a modest daily tipple may lower their risk of going on to develop type 2 diabetes, a study shows.
These women, who reported drinking between half to one drink a day, faced a 41% decreased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, compared with their teetotal peers.
These results remained after adjusting for major lifestyle and dietary factors, as well as accounting for body mass index (BMI), according to the study in JAMA Network Open.
However, the authors say their findings should not be taken in isolation from other health recommendations for women.
