Dealing with the ‘dirty’ bits of the body? Patients and their specialist misconceptions

GPs are 'referologists' and gastroenterologists look at 'butts' all day. Here's what patients get wrong about their specialists.

From a belief that plastic surgeons only drive sports cars, to the idea that urologists just treat men, patients have many misconceptions about what specialists actually do.

Dr Mikhail Varshavski, a GP in the US, has gathered the views of specialists on the biggest misperceptions held about their field.

In a YouTube video, Dr Varshavski, also known as Dr Mike, goes first with his biggest bugbear about how GPs are seen: “Some patients, and honestly some doctors, treat family medicine doctors like referologists, but that’s furthest from the case.”

He says GPs can treat treating 90% of medical issues faced by patients.
