Death after Spikevax booster prompts new myocarditis warning

A TGA panel has recommended updates to product information after a young woman’s death

A woman in her 20s has died after receiving a booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, prompting stronger warnings about myocarditis risk.

The death is the first in Australia to be linked to mRNA vaccination.

In a vaccine safety report last month, the TGA said the woman died from myocarditis likely related to the booster dose she had received a few weeks earlier, given the absence of other apparent causes and the timing of her symptoms.

However, other “complicating factors” might have contributed, the regulator noted.
