‘Deliberately humiliating’: Court puts prominent GP’s conditions on hold

A temporary ban preventing a GP from prescribing controlled drugs has been lifted, after a court found there was no “compelling urgency” for the Medical Board of Australia to take action.
Dr Julian Fidge, who was a candidate in last year’s RACGP presidential election, came to the attention of AHPRA in mid-2021 after he contacted the Northeast Health Wangaratta ED about one of his patients.
He had explained to the ED doctor that he had been treating the woman for mental illness related to childhood sexual abuse.
Dr Fidge described how he had been prescribing her oxycodone, diazepam and Mersyndol, the Supreme Court of Victoria heard.
