ACRRM frozen out of GP training expansion: ‘Dismayed is the polite word’
President Dr Rod Martin says the failure to be transparent has rankled him.
ACRRM says it was excluded from talks on the Australian General Practice Training program ahead of last week’s unexpected announcement of 306 extra RACGP training posts.
The Federal Government says the decision to increase the number of 2026 Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) posts to 2124 — some 1772 with the RACGP and 352 with ACCRM — reflects resurgent interest in the specialty among junior doctors.
However, ACRRM president Dr Rod Martin has accused the government of failing on transparency.
“We were a bit dismayed. That’s my polite word for it,” he told AusDoc.
