Disneyland and a $2500 coffee machine? Corruption watchdog examines doctors’ claims for CPD expenses
An investigation by a corruption watchdog has found doctors claiming $1200 for three gold-plated pens, $12,000 for a stay at a Balinese wellness retreat, and $2500 for a coffee machine in pursuit of their CPD.
The SA Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) examined the $64 million claimed from SA Health over the last 12 months to support the CPD of public hospital doctors.
It scrutinised the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network and the Women’s and Children’s Health Network and found what it described as “questionable claims” for expensive electronics, stationery, bags and overseas trips.
One medical officer had apparently racked up $68,600 on four Apple Watches, five iPads, four mobile phones and four laptops over a four-year period.
