Doctor anger over national day of mourning following Queen’s death

But Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defends the move, saying it was a one-in-70-year event

Frustrated doctors have lashed out at the Prime Minister for calling a snap holiday to mark the Queen’s death, forcing surgical patients to miss out on long-awaited GP appointments and elective surgeries.

ENT surgeon Dr Eric Levi said it would impact 60 patients who were booked into his hospital’s cancer clinic, with eight scheduled for theatre.

“Every single patient has waited weeks to months for their medical care,” the Melbourne doctor tweeted.

“Every clinic and operating lists overbooked till December. What do we do for them?”
