Doctor achieves global fame for resuscitation of a fish called Alice

Dr Ben Beska’s social media post about saving a goldfish he found on his lawn has over 23 million views.

A UK doctor has hit headlines for life-saving services provided not to his human patients, but to a goldfish he found on his back lawn — with no nearby ponds to explain the appearance.

Dr Ben Beska’s tweet about the fish that appeared to have fallen from the sky has over 23 million views with his story picked by news organisations around the world.

The 33-year-old cardiology registrar from Newcastle — who now describes himself as a “world-renowned expert in goldfish care” — said he discovered the fish on his back lawn on Saturday, after he went to investigate what was making a group of magpies agitated.

To his astonishment, a fish appeared to be the cause of the ruckus.
