Doctor breaks down at aged care COVID-19 inquest

A leading geriatrician has broken down in tears at the inquest into COVID-19 deaths at a Victorian aged care home, describing her visit as the most distressing day of her career.
The inquest is looking into 45 deaths among residents at St Basil’s Home for the Aged in July last year.
Dr Sandra Brown said the facility was in a “dire” situation when she visited on 23 July.
It was the day after regular workers at the facility were declared close contacts and replaced by inexperienced agency staff.
