Doctor burnt son with iron to get him out of bed: tribunal

The doctor said he was 'embarrassed, sorry and deeply regretful'

A Perth doctor who burnt his teenage son with an iron has been suspended for four months.

The boy, then aged 16, had chronic pain and often struggled to get out of bed, which was eventually linked to his undiagnosed chronic juvenile arthritis and depression.

As a result, he often refused to go to school, according to the WA State Administrative Tribunal.

The tribunal suppressed publication of the doctor’s name or specialty to protect his child’s identity.
