Doctor fined over visit to pandemic hotspot

A Queensland doctor has been blasted by the state’s Health Minister Steven Miles for allegedly lying over his return from a COVID-19 hotspot.
The 38-year-old Rockhampton doctor was among those fined thousands of dollars for giving false information when entering the state from a coronavirus hotspot.
He returned from a hotspot in Victoria on 12 July, when police allege he made a false declaration to enter the state.
Officers turned up at his door a day later, fining him $4003 and immediately taking him to guarded quarantine.
