A leading obstetrician and gynaecologist is publishing data on his surgical outcomes and complication rates — and he’d like GPs to follow suit.
Amid the recent debate about specialists’ fees, Professor Stephen Robson, immediate past president of RANZCOG, realised the issue of quality of care was being overlooked.
Taking the lead, a month ago he published his outcomes for major surgeries performed over the five years to June 2019, including the number of surgeries performed and complications rates, on his website.
The data also compared his complications rate for two clinical indicator benchmarks published by the Australian Council on Health Standards.
